When – 7th and 8th September 2018
Where – Lymm Village Hall, Pepper Street
There is a big turnout at the Much Wenlock Wine Circle caravan meet up.
Walking, bbqs, Gin Club and socialising are being enjoyed by all.
We sampled a very nice white wine – ‘Glenridge Point’ Sauvignon Blanc 2017 Marlborough New Zealand
Sainsbury’s on offer at £ 6.50 reduced from £ 7.50
We had a very interesting talk by Angela Brabin on “Victorian Women and Poison”. Not only did we learn that you can get enough arsenic from a fly paper to kill a man but also that newspapers sometimes embellish the truth!!
19 people turned up. 12 people bowled. The 7 who didn’t play had a good happy chat! And chat! And chat!
The standard of bowling was very high and competitive., it was good to see Graham Hughes playing a couple of games ( notlost his touch).
I mixed people up this year, with bowlers playing with non-bowlers. It worked very well, the non-bowlers were exceptionally good.
The weather stayed dry, much against the forecast.
Everybody played 4 games to – 11 up- with lunch sandwiched ( Ha! Ha!) in between.
It was a very tight finish with Joan and David just pipping Jenny and Graham H (with help from Geoff)
I think everybody went home happy, it was a nice afternoon.
LAST CLUB NIGHT

Chenin Blanc | South Africa | 13.0% | £7.50 |
Cinsault | South Africa | 13.5% | £7.50 |
Fleurie | France | 13.0% | £10.00 |
Port | Portugal | 19.5% | £11.00 |
NEXT CLUB NIGHT – August 15th
This is to be a talk by Angela Brabin on Victorian Women and Poison. There will also be a wine to taste at the end of the talk.
There will be a slight change to the programme printed on your Programme of Events.
The Call my Bluff tasting will be at the September meeting and Denis’ talk and tasting on Fortified Wines will be in February.
Bowling Afternoon
Date – August 12th. The venue is Oughtrington Bowling Club staring at 12, finishing 5pm. Bring a picnic and Graham and Olwen are providing tea and coffee.
POPPIES
After our success with the Christmas tree at St Mary’s we have been asked to contribute to their display to celebrate 100 years since the ending of the First World War. They are wanting to create a poppy cascade, similar to the one at the Tower of London. They have asked if we could make poppies – knitted, crocheted or any other craft based poppy.
Crafty Winos
Several of our members were busy making poppies for the St Mary’s church appeal.
JUNE WALK
The walk started from The Dormouse Tea Room at Daresbury on a glorious day and the sun shone for the whole walk.
We headed south from Daresbury and found a small geocache ( for the uninitiated see Dave Roberts) We walked to Preston on the Hill village and down to the Bridgewater canal and followed the canal passed the Science Park and collapsed at the Dormouse for a light lunch.
